10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: Magnum T.A

1. He’s Cast As A Hulk Hogan/WWF Beater

Right, this was a strange theme throughout the episode.

Some of the talking heads involved seemed to suggest that Magnum winning the NWA World Title in 1986/1987 would've stopped the WWF from monopolising the wrestling industry. He's depicted as a counterpoint to Hulk Hogan and the rise of "Hulkamania", which seems far-fetched.

Magnum was genuinely talented, and very popular, but his NWA Title success would've been up against federation mega-events like WrestleMania III. Yep, Hogan vs. Andre. There was simply no stopping Vince McMahon's powerhouse juggernaut by that point, so it's a fanciful claim.

Jim Crockett Promotions and the NWA at large is described in 'Dark Side' as an operation that needed Magnum to bag gold and fend off the WWF. Suggesting that T.A could've been some Hulk Hogan-beater by that stage is certainly bold.
