None other than Andre The Giant was touring through Mid-South Wrestling in the early-to-mid-1980s when he first met Terry Allen. The young wrestler was still trying to find his thing in pro wrestling, but Andre had just the ticket: Become wrestling's very own version of Tom Selleck.

Most agreed that Terry had a passing resemblance to Selleck, so Andre said he should start calling himself Magnum T.A. That, of course, was a riff on Selleck's successful Magnum P.I TV show character, and it proved to be a winner. Well, it proved to be a winner eventually.

Allen tried a suited and booted look at first, but never felt comfortable. Then, someone said he should go punk rock. That flopped too, so he settled on a biker jacket and riding a Harley Davidson. Suddenly, Magnum T.A had found his calling.

Who knows which direction his career might've gone had he not met Andre when he did?
