5. Heels Couldn’t Visit Him In Hospital!
Ready for a jarring reminder of old school pro wrestling's dedication to the art of kayfabe? Terry Allen almost died, but heels on the NWA roster who wanted to visit Magnum in hospital had to be super-careful lest fans see them being sympathetic towards a babyface. Wow.
VICE's doc revealed that villains had to quietly sneak in the back door and stay out of sight. Ric Flair, for example, had to be bundled in under cover of darkness, but he was keen to pass on well wishes to a good friend. At one point, Ric even draped the World Title over Magnum and said the following:
"I am giving you this one, and I am waiting for you to get back in the ring for the other one”.
Gestures like that meant the world to Allen, 'cause he must've been all over the place mentally as well as physically. That wasn't the only kind show of support from the NWA, his peers in the locker room or company higher-ups though.
