It was Animal's door-destroying antics that prompted Ole Anderson to give him a shot as a pro wrestler. That seemed like a dream gig to someone who'd previously been stiffing drug-addled drugs for money, but things didn't really work out as planned. At one point, get this, Animal was wrestling nine times per week for a total of $150.

One hundred and fifty measly bucks.

His girlfriend fell pregnant around this time, and the couple decided to get married. Animal knew that he couldn't afford to live off meagre payoffs when he had a child on the way, so he decided to quit wrestling and move back into bouncing. That's when Hawk came into the frame as a possible partner.

Someone showed Ole a picture of Hawk working in Canada, and Anderson thought it was Animal. When he found out it wasn't, he said, "There are two of them?" and thought both guys would be an excellent fit as a team. He was right.
