Hawk and Animal began touring Japan in 1985, and their different lifestyles really began taking shape in All Japan when they gathered steam and turned heads. Animal told VICE that he liked to wrestle, work out, eat and sleep. That was pretty much it, and he was never really one for a reckless partying lifestyle.

Hawk, infamously, was.

He started making links with the Yakuza, and he was getting involved in some dodgy sh*t. Other than that, he was a great tag partner, but Animal was starting to find it difficult to keep Hawk on the straight and narrow because he was so fond of going out and getting smashed after shows.

Later, towards the end of their NWA run, Hawk started relying heavily on muscle relaxers to get through the rough schedule. Alarm bells started ringing for Animal that his friend was struggling to keep a lid on things and survive without his nightly parties.
