10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: The Double Life Of Chris Kanyon
5. Kanyon Thought WWE Stole His “Gimmick”
Then, Kanyon penned a letter to Stephanie McMahon about Orlando Jordan.
Jordan was all set to come out as WWE's first openly gay wrestler (he's since said he's bisexual), and several folks backstage already knew the truth about his sexuality anyway. Mitchell claims that Chris felt affronted by that because he didn't feel he'd been afforded the same acceptance. James pointed out that Kanyon had gone to extreme lengths to hide it for years.
Then, Mitchell told Kanyon that he couldn't patent his sexuality. It was who he was, not a character. Still, Chris wrote Steph a lengthy note and pitched that he, not Orlando, become WWE's first openly gay worker.
McMahon replied to the letter diplomatically. She said she was sorry to hear of his personal struggles, but that she'd need to consult with WWE's legal department. This all happened after another regrettable incident that likely destroyed any chances Chris had of getting back in WWE's good books.
