10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: TNA (Part 3)
8. Awesome Kong Thought This Was “Bulls***”
The producers nearly did Awesome Kong dirty here.
She was mid-rant about guys coming in "who did some stuff in the 80s" when VICE flashed Ric Flair up on the screen. Meanwhile, Kong told the viewers that these older veterans came in and told TNA's roster how everything they'd been doing was wrong. Summing it up rather abruptly, Kong said: "I thought that was bulls***".
Being totally honest, the celebrated TNA Knockout pioneer came across as quite dismissive of wrestling’s history and the vast experience of guys like Flair here, but that might’ve been VICE’s fault for showing off Ric and nobody else. Or, perhaps that was deliberate and it was the 'Nature Boy' who came across like an absolute idiot as he rubbished everything women like Kong, Gail Kim, the X Division etc had worked to build.
After all, Flair hasn't exactly been complimentary to TNA/Impact since leaving the promotion. He's even gone on record to admit he only agreed to join the organisation in the first place because he was bored, WWE wouldn't let him wrestle after retiring him at WrestleMania XXIV, and because Hulk asked him if he'd be up for it.
Not exactly a glowing review of your time there, Ric.
There's a chance that Kong sniffed out that disinterest straight away. Last week, she also told a story about asking TNA management for slightly more money, so perhaps that played into her thinking on legends coming in for another payday whilst she and her peers kept slumming it.
