10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: WWE’s Steroid Trials
6. The Nailz Story Is Still Astounding
Jerry McDevitt wasn't concerned one bit about what Kevin 'Nailz' Wacholz would say in court. When Wacholz told the judge that Vince had personally demanded he take steroids upon joining the WWF, McDevitt pointed out that asking a gimmick in an orange jumpsuit to take 'roids would've been totally pointless.
Then, Nailz f*cked everything up by outing his hatred of Vince.
When asked if he had any animosity towards McMahon, Wacholz said no. Seconds later, when asked if he disliked Vince, Nailz said that he hated him. Oh dear. This is still mind-blowing all these years on, and it's not hard to picture the prosecution burying their heads in their hands after hearing that.
Again, VICE's doc portrays McDevitt as somebody who paid close attention to details and had an almost-superhuman knowledge of what witnesses might say under pressure. He prepared for that, and found loopholes in their arguments where possible.
Someone should've advised Wacholz not to admit he hated the WWF boss.
