10 Things We Learned From Drew McIntyre On Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions
8. ‘Taker Told Him To “Stop Playing Wrestler"
"Be a wrestler".
That was the sage advice handed down to Drew by none other than The Undertaker during his first WWE run. It's just a pity that, by his own admission, McIntyre didn't really have a clue what the veteran meant. He looked like a wrestler, had some nice gear, could talk and wrestled fine, so what was 'Taker banging on about?
It took Drew years to figure out that "stop playing wrestler" was a mindset more than anything. One day, it also clicked that McIntyre had been mega-tense during matches and was always focusing on the next spot rather than "feeling the moment". He also thought that moves were key, and that "more was better".
The Undertaker could see something in McIntyre back then that the big man couldn't see himself. Even so, he's not sure he was ready to take such advice on board, especially when his private life began unravelling away from the ring in 2014.
