3. Goldberg Turned Down Training With Curtis Axel

WWE have always called upon current roster members to help whip returning stars into wrestling shape. Curt Hawkins filled this role for The Rock as he prepared to face John Cena at WrestleMania 28, and according to the interview, the company pitched Goldberg the idea of training with Raw forgotten man Curtis Axel ahead of Orlando.

This makes a lot of sense, particularly as Goldberg will likely be trusted with headlining WrestleMania. Another two-move match could be seen as a huge disappointment on the biggest show of the year, and in working with a currently active wrestler, Goldberg should at least be able to maximise his performance on April 2nd.

Amazingly, however, Goldberg turned the proposal down. Stating that he didn’t want to put further strain on his struggling body, Bill has instead focused on solo training, and while only he knows what’s best for himself, this seems like a weird choice. You’d think that a man who’s been out of the game for 12 years would jump at any chance to shake-off some ring rust, but no. Training with Axel wouldn’t exactly turn Goldberg into prime Rey Mysterio overnight, but this news only dampens enthusiasm for the big match.
