6. Jeff Hated His “Aztec” Look

...and he hated what was waiting for him there too.

Jarrett launched a WWF comeback in late-1997, but he felt totally out of place in a company that was rapidly moving towards a raunchier 'Attitude'. By his own admission, the "Aztec singlet" look Jeff sported sucked, and things didn't get better when the company made him part of the bogus NWA stable.

Baffled by his lack of direction and knowing he needed change, Jeff was delighted when Vince Russo (spurred on by McMahon) suggested cutting his hair and going with a new look after SummerSlam 1998. Jarrett knew he needed that badly, because he was sinking as a retro heel.

The "Aztec singlet" (as Jeff called it) wasn't around for too long anyway. By spring, he was wearing his old country singer gimmicks again and trying another go-around with that. The haircut and image change would prove to be exactly what Jarrett required in late-90s WWF.
