10 Things We Learned From Jerry Lawler On Stone Cold's Broken Skull Sessions Podcast

8. The Andy Kaufman Insight Is Amazing

Generally, Lawler's interview focused on the early part of his career before reaching WWE. There's a good 40 minute stretch before anything from 1993 onwards even comes up, and that might not be to everyone watching's tastes. It is bloody fascinating though, especially when Andy Kaufman's name comes up.

The actor ad-libbed most of his rivalry with Lawler and deliberately kept outsiders guessing by blurring the lines between reality and kayfabe. According to 'King', Kaufman even kept him in the dark. Lawler shared some nice little tales about Andy paying for an ambulance out of his own pocket ($350, by the way) following a piledriver spot.

Then, attention turned to their appearance together on David Letterman's show.

The producers wanted Lawler and Kaufman to kiss and make up, but that didn't happen. Both men hatched a secret plan to go another direction and Jerry ended up slapping Andy on air. Letterman and his crew didn't know about that. Letterman even told Lawler that this was the only time he'd lost control of his own show.
