10 Things We Learned From Jon Moxley On Renee Paquette’s Sessions Podcast
2. Moxley Is Proud Of His Part In Forbidden Door
Mox played a bigger part in the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view than you might know.
AEW and New Japan didn't have any real working relationship to speak of when Jon landed in the company three years ago. He'd already left WWE and started accepting bookings in Japan, and he figured Tony Khan's group would gain a ton by working alongside NJPW; "There was no communication".
Some unnamed folks told Moxley to stop working for New Japan, but he ignored them. Privately, he thought giving AEW's younger wrestlers some experience by sending them on tours in Japan would do everyone good. Why? Well, All Elite doesn't do house shows, so Jon reasoned they'd get important reps in between weekly programs.
He pitched sending Darby Allin over (which hasn't happened quite yet), and also encouraged Wheeler Yuta to enter the heralded Best Of The Super Juniors tournament. Moxley wants AEW and New Japan to work together as much as possible, and he's infinitely proud of the part he played in bringing them together.
