Holy Antichrist Superstar!

During Kane's early years, one of the character's most striking features was one white, emotionless eye that stared a hole through the viewer at home. That was a deliberate design, and it was lifted from shock-rocker Marilyn Manson in time for Kane's debut at In Your House: Badd Blood in October 1997.

The surprising thing here is that it was Jim Ross of all people who recommended the contact lens as a means to strip human emotion from Kane. He'd spotted a picture of Manson in a magazine, and was captivated by the way the discolouration sapped him of humanity. It was cold, it was alien, it was perfect.

No, JR wasn't jamming along to tunes like 'Irresponsible Hate Anthem' and 'The Beautiful People', but he was taking inspiration from Manson's track 'Man That You Fear' by gifting Kane one of his most powerful physical traits. Everyone agreed that it was perfect for the chilling, robotic atmosphere Kane wanted to create.
