Everything in WWE is meticulously planned out ahead of time, right? Anybody who has followed the company for even a few short years knows that's not really true. Things change quickly, and they change daily. Still, it's incredible to think that Vince McMahon promised the nWo on the 24 January 2002 SmackDown without nailing everyone down to deals.

Nash hadn't agreed terms when that promo aired.

He told Austin that Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall had made it clear they'd return, but he hadn't. In fact, he'd turned down Shane McMahon's overtures over the phone by telling a baffled Shane-O that he "wasn't interested"; Kevin knew what he was doing here, in fairness. He told his wife there'd be a "knock on the door" again by the next day.

The truth is that Nash did have reservations about returning to the WWF under the nWo gimmick. Most in the company viewed the trio as potential locker room cancer, and few wanted that kind of disruption when things had been going so well.
