It's not exactly a secret that both WWF and WCW staff were keeping an eye on the competition each Monday night. In the backstage area, television sets were regularly tuned to each respective channel, showing what was happening on the rival program. It was a truly unique time in the industry.

Over in WCW, Kevin Nash says they rarely had a TV on in the locker room area, but there was a big monitor on the side of the production truck. Each week, that monitor was tuned to Raw. Up until now, many fans may have imagined the monitor was actually inside the truck, but it was literally outside beaming the WWF show.

According to Nash, wrestlers would occasionally watch what was happening on Raw, but the only person they were really worried about in 1997 was Sable. Whenever she was on camera, whether alongside Marc Mero or individually, WCW would actively try to avoid putting anything meaningful opposite her appearance.

In other words, the folks on Nitro knew that Sable's star was on the rise, recognising the huge ratings her quarter hour segments would get.
