The August 4, 1997 edition of Monday Nitro proved to be one of the most important of the entire year. Going into the show, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were pushing for Lex Luger to defeat Hollywood Hogan and bag the WCW World Title. That's exactly what would end up happening.

Naturally, Hogan was in on the deal and was promised that he'd win it back at the Road Wild pay-per-view just 6 days later. The only person left peeved by the switch was Sting, still watching from the rafters and waiting to face Hogan at Starrcade. The Stinger wasn't exactly thrilled that Lex was booked to beat his arch nemesis first.

Luger and Sting have been friends for years, and were extremely close by 1997. It's possible that Sting wasn't unhappy at seeing his friend triumph, he just didn't want anything to dilute his eventual title victory over Hogan at the year's biggest show.

During the Kayfabe Commentaries shoot, Nash says that Sting wasn't happy that Hulk had been beaten during the build to his biggest ever match.
