WWE was quite the trip for both men.

They were signed when they were only 20 years old, and ended up working guys like The Undertaker, Fit Finlay and Batista on live events by the time they were 21. It never dawned on Ryder or Hawkins just how lucky they were to be in that position when they had so little experience of the big time.

Ryder admitted that he foolishly thought everyone followed that path. "You sign up for a wrestling school, work some indys, then sign for WWE", he said, as though such things are easy peasy. It wasn't until years later that they say down and realised how fortunate they'd been as green youngsters breaking into the industry.

Deep South gave Ryder literal nightmares, but it also toughened the pair up and taught them that wrestling wasn't all glitz, glamour and WrestleMania paydays. Even so, they still thought it was all part of the process and weren't truly grateful until things went sour.
