As soon as Matt walked through the doors and met up with old friends in the AEW locker room, he knew he'd made the right choice. Some reunions with friends wouldn't be enough to sustain his interest though. Matt needed to know that AEW was a place in which he could comfortably unleash his creativity.

Minutes later, he smiled and realised it was possible.

Hardy told Jericho that he suggested some ideas and everyone said, "That sounds great, go do it". It was a completely different vibe to the more corporate, restrictive WWE structure, and that made Matt happy. He didn't have to fight through levels of authority until someone/anyone finally pitched it to Vince McMahon.

Matt found his introduction to AEW "very easy and refreshing". That crippling lack of communication he'd experienced in WWE had suddenly vanished, and he (much like Jericho, Dustin Rhodes and Jon Moxley) felt free again to just do his thing.
