10 Things We Learned From Matt Hardy On Talk Is Jericho

6. True Blood Inspired The 'Broken' Universe

The red streak Matt had through his hair on Dynamite wasn't coincidental. It's part of a new 'Damascus' character he's playing. That's an extension of the 'Broken' persona, and he hails from "999 BC". Jericho, who couldn't stop giggling along with the madness, loved hearing about all that wacky characterisation and Matt-created lore.

According to Hardy, HBO's True Blood show was the original inspiration for his 'Broken' brilliance. He rediscovered his love of television when working for ROH, and he adored the idea of souls who live in "different vessels" across multiple time periods. That's when he began formulating his reinvention.

Adding to the weirdness, 'Broken' Matt now isn't the same one who appeared on Impact Wrestling, and it's nowhere near the 'Woken' tweak in WWE. 'Kennagin' (which might be spelled wrongly) is a fictional being who killed off that side of him; it's based on McMahon's desire to control Matt's creativity.
