There are few in wrestling with as interesting a brain as Raven's. His way of looking at things is jarring, and that's something even Austin brings up during the podcast. When Steve asked Levy about coming up with his most famous character and move to ECW, Raven said it worked because Paul Heyman lived vicariously through the gimmick.

To explain what he meant, Raven cited Vince McMahon's own 'Million Dollar Man' idea, one which he handed to Ted DiBiase but had always wanted to play himself. In Levy's mind, that was the same with Heyman and the Raven guise; ideal for the grungy, twisted world Heyman had created in ECW, Raven fit the promoter's philosophy on life.

Due to this, Heyman was always going to put his all into ensuring that the Raven character worked in his company. Levy went further by claiming Paul understood the character better than he did, and credited him for producing many of Raven's promos and segments.
