Ron didn't know he was becoming WCW World Champ until 2 August 1992. Yes, that's the day he won the title. In fact, going further, Ron didn't know he was becoming WCW's next main man until hours before beating Big Van Vader for the strap.

That's insane.

Bill Watts kept it a huge secret (old school thinking right there) and refused to clue anybody in until the entire roster arrived at the building. A stunned Simmons recalled hearing the news at the same time as the rest of the roster. That probably made him feel a bit awkward in front of his peers.

Vader was similarly shocked - he wasn't exactly cool with the last-minute approach, but Ron was thankful he agreed to do business in the ring and put him over. Watts' assessment of the situation was, "We're gonna make history". Damn right they were, but Vader likely would've appreciated a little heads up before arriving for work.
