10 Things We Learned From Samoa Joe On Talk Is Jericho

9. The Samoan Wrestling Family Tree

The host mentions how he's never met a Samoan who couldn't work or handle his alcohol (what he calls the positive aspect of racial stereotyping) then asks Joe if he's part of the lineage of great Samoan wrestlers such as the Anoa'i or Fatu families. Joe replies that he's not, and then relates a story of meeting Umaga backstage at a WrestleMania where he was confronted over some hearsay relating to Joe purportedly disrespecting a member of his family. Umaga asked him to step aside and Joe accepted, but they were able to squash the beef and come to an understanding. He puts the families over as paving the way for all Polynesian wrestlers, saying that before Peter Maivia came along no one even knew where Samoa was. Joe is proud of his own family and wants to earn his reputation on his own name.
