2. Those Wyatt Family Matches Were "Squeezed In"

Once plans for an early split were shelved, The Shield moved into feuds against The Wyatt Family and Evolution. Neither had been a long-term plan at the end of 2013, and the Wyatt one (in particular) only happened because it was convenient and creative had nothing for either group.

Imagine that. WWE's writers had nothing for two of the most exciting factions of the time.

Backstage, Vince McMahon was still toying with the idea of splitting The Shield. Seth said it was that first match with Bray and clan at Elimination Chamber 2014 that prolonged the stable's run. After that, the boss could see they had a bit more mileage, and the Evolution story fell into their lap.

The Wyatt angle had to be "squeezed in" early (Seth's words) just incase WWE went with the split story they had initially wanted to book. Things were very much up in the air for The Shield around this time. They could sense WWE's interest fading.
