Here's that news on Seth's failed babyface run between 2017-2019.

Rollins thought he could sway people into cheering for him after hearing positive reactions in 2016. WWE decided against turning him back then though - they wanted to run with Roman Reigns instead, and Vince didn't fancy giving Reigns competition for the top face role.

By 2017, McMahon's outlook on Seth 'Good Guy' Rollins had softened. Meanwhile, the man himself had a bit of a crisis of confidence when some fans rejected the casting. Seth has also never viewed himself as a particularly sympathetic guy. He just doesn't think he's somebody people would ever root for.

Then, WWE mimicked Rollins' real-life relationship with Becky Lynch by putting them together on screen in 2019. Seth wasn't keen on that, and told Austin that Bex' character survived the hit whilst his looked really mushy and wimpy. He was dead set against working a romance angle from the get go.
