KAMA didn't exactly pan out, so Wright returned to the shelf awaiting his next call up. During that period, WCW offered him a deal to come in and act as an enforcer for the nWo. He chewed it over and asked some others for advice. It was Ron Simmons who finally kiboshed any chances of the jump happening.

Ron called Charles up and told him he wouldn't appreciate some of the comments he'd get about his skin colour down south. Unfazed, Wright told his friend he'd beat anybody's ass if they dared to make racist remarks. That was exactly what Simmons was talking about. He emphatically added, "It's not a place for you - don't go there".

Charles listened.

Later, he saw Virgil come in as an nWo lackey and get 'clowned". Wright told Austin that he wouldn't have let WCW do that to him. In retrospect, he's also grateful that Ron took the time out to give great advice during such a key period in his wrestling career.
