4. Who Painted His Abandoned Shango Rebirth

By 1998, the WWF wanted to bring Papa Shango back as an updated remodel. Wright claims the rebirth would've been a "lot less comical" than the original attempt, and there are some promo shots out of there of Charles in the reworked gimmick. The one above is the most rare.

Jerry Lawler is the one who painted his face that day.

Wright got word that McMahon wanted to speak with him. So, he politely excused himself from Jerry, went to Vince's office and learned they were putting him in The Nation Of Domination instead. Charles, who always viewed wrestling as Vince's business and did what he was told, said he was game for that. Suddenly, all plans to bring back Shango were put on the back burner. It'd never actually happen.

Austin seemed disappointed by that, but he was in awe at the Lawler reveal. 'Stone Cold' also believes a more serious version of the voodoo priest could've worked out great, and he's a little bit gutted they didn't try something like that back in the early-90s.
