The announce team for the entire tournament consisted of Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan, and the duo were every bit as much of a revelation as the 32 men flying around the ring. The combination of Ranallo's style and knowledge alongside Bryan's personal experience and unbridled enthusiasm made for the perfect accompaniment to the tournament bouts.

Whether Bryan would work as well in such a role on the main roster is up for debate, but in this environment he was fantastic. DBry would call the moves and psychology like someone who truly understands what is going on, giving reasons for moves and covering the odd botch with explanations.

It was his enthusiasm that shone through the most however, and it is amazing how much more enjoyable wrestling is when there is a commentator who clearly enjoys what they are seeing. WWE has struggled with announce team woes for a while now, and it is clear that one way of fixing this would be to give their commentators the freedom to enjoy the product.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
