10 Things We Learned From Triple H's Wikipedia: Fact Or Fiction

1. 'The Game' Was Never Meant For Owen Hart

There's a longstanding internet rumour that 'The Game' nickname was created for Owen Hart, not Triple H. It's one rumour that Triple H can't understand, and he says nobody in creative came up with 'The Game'. In fact, he adlibbed it during a promo in late-1999 with Jim Ross.

He was cutting up the well-known phrase "student of the game", one that's always been used heavily in pro wrestling circles. Triple H lopped off the first part of the statement and began calling himself 'The Game' for short. It stuck, and he recognises JR's commentary as instrumental in getting the new moniker over with the audience.

Owen had nothing to do with it.

According to Triple H, there were no calls to name Hart 'The Game' before he came along and started using it in '99. That'll disappoint some who want to believe that there was some grand plan beyond The Blue Blazer for Owen that year.
