10 Things We Learned From Triple H's Wikipedia: Fact Or Fiction

8. Michael Hayes Named The Pedigree

It didn't have a name until he reached the WWF.

When the company relented and let Triple H start using a move he was quickly perfecting (more on that in the next entry), he started to wonder what it might be called. Michael Hayes was on hand with a suggestion that turned the finish into something that'd fit Trips' 'Connecticut Blueblood' gimmick.

Backstage, Hayes approached Triple H and said he thought "Pedigree" might be a name fans would remember and announcers would be able to say quickly. It was in-tune with his aforementioned stuck up character, had a punchy quality (like the move itself) and just fit.

Triple H loved it immediately, and he was quick to credit Hayes for his creativity during the Fact Or Fiction session. Without his intervention, who knows what the move would've been called in the end. Don't forget, the WWF's braintrust of 1995 thought "Chilly McFreeze" was a good gimmick for Steve Austin.
