Michael Cole and other WWE folks weren’t happy with Pat McAfee back at WrestleMania 35. The then-guest anchor decided to wear some fetching tailored shorts for the pre-show, and Cole lost his mind when he spotted the guy. At one point, things got rather heated.

Pat, who didn't really need pro wrestling anyway, admitted to the boss that he was ready to walk due to the stress. If Michael didn't want him going out there as he was, then he'd happily blow the gig off and go home. That's when Vince stepped in and saved the day.

Yes, you're reading that correctly.

Pat will never forget McMahon saying he respected that the newbie wanted to wear what he wanted to wear. Their relationship snowballed from there, and eventually led to opportunities on both NXT and SmackDown. Nowadays, Vince pretty much just sits back and lets McAfee do his own thing on commentary.
