10 Things We Learned From Vince McMahon's Variety Interview
7. There's An Unnecessary Dig At Ted Turner
WCW marks will get a real kick out of the Variety article's closing stretch. There, for whatever reason, McMahon feels the need to plant a boot right in Ted Turner's ballsack and have yet another pop at what his World Championship Wrestling outfit achieved in the '90s.
It's rather unnecessary.
McMahon toppled Turner's wrestling league almost 20 years ago, and yet he's still flagrantly suggesting that the only reason WCW had any success was because Ted "opened his checkbook and spent a lot of money buying our talent". Ouch, ouch, ouch. Vince sticks the boot in again by saying he knew Turner's WCW "couldn't stand the grind".
Is there any need for this? No, not really. McMahon won that particular war, but he's unable to stomach any talk of Turner temporarily beating him at his own game. That won't wash with those who know better. WCW kicked WWE's ass for a few years because it presented a better, more exciting product, not 'cause Turner stole Vince's talent.
