8. Why He Quit British Wrestling TV

Regal was just 18 years old when he was suddenly thrust into the spotlight as Big Daddy's tag-team partner on TV. The role was a restrictive one - Daddy's partners got the sh*t kicked out of them, then he'd come in for a few spots and the win. Jericho's guest knew he couldn't do that forever.

He'd never improve as a wrestler if he did.

One day, Regal went to promoter Max Crabtree and told him he was quitting for gigs elsewhere. "Are you mental?" was the response. Hilariously, that was the same reply Brian Dixon gave him when William phoned up to ask for bookings in his company. Nobody could understand why this fresh-faced teen was giving up such a featured spot.

Crabtree told Regal it was "the worst decision [he'd] ever make", but that didn't turn out to be true. The ambitious young worker wanted to wrestle matches like a 1978 classic between Rollerball Rocco and Marty Jones, and he wasn't going to do that tagging with Daddy.
