10 Things We Learned From WWE 24: Becky Lynch

WWE's 24 series has now spanned 19 episodes since debuting in January 2015. Of note, documentaries on Daniel Bryan, Kurt Angle, Goldberg, WrestleMania and the female roster have been excellently produced. Becky Lynch was in the latter film (Empowered), and now she has one of her own.

She can be proud of it.

Becky Lynch: The Man follows the Irish dreamer's journey from aspiring young wrestler growing up in Dublin to 'Mania immortal, and it weaves a curious narrative by fusing generous slabs of kayfabe shattering goodness with WWE's typical in-house spin. One minute, Bex is being painfully self-critical. The next, her employers are refusing to do the same. That's a shame, because it removes some of the humanity Lynch so clearly has a wealth of, and it's hardly necessary.

That protective layer of bullsh*t shouldn't detract from the fun fans of her work will get from the documentary, but it's definitely noticeable. Aside from senseless propaganda at key points, the film is an introspective, honest one that deals with family, living away from home, fulfilling ambition and dealing with heartbreak in equal measure...
