Likely due to depression over the fact that his 3MB stable had been completely trumped by The Shield in late-2012, Jinder slipped into a dangerous routine of heavy drinking and not giving a damn about his work. That trend continued when he eventually left WWE in 2014.

Continuing to drink every single night without much care, Mahal caught sight of a picture from one independent appearance on the internet in 2015 and decided to turn his life around. His diet poor and his outlook bleak, the Indo-Canadian star started to realise what crappy shape he was in.

From that point on, Jinder stopped drinking and took better care of his body. Early morning training suddenly became a way of life for him, because Mahal realised that his career would continue going nowhere if he didn't start respecting himself.
