10 Things We Learned From WWE SmackDown's First Ever Episode
4. Big Show's First Year Should’ve Been Bigger
Big Show had only been in the WWF for a few months by the time SmackDown's pilot aired in late-April. By that point, he was already just another dude on the roster despite his gargantuan size and Vince McMahon's well-established love of freakishly large men. For proof, look at his 47 second match with Test.
That's not a typo. Forty seven seconds is all they got.
In that brief period, Show managed to display his stellar athleticism for such a large man by cracking off quite the dropkick that landed flush on Test's chest. It's also noticeable how well-muscled Show was back then. He was in the shape of his life and looked great in trunks. His first year really should've been better.
Show had everything McMahon loved, and yet he was about to be placed in a dreadfully-lame Union storyline with Mankind, Ken Shamrock and his opponent here. Two months on from throwing Steve Austin through a steel cage, Show should've been in the main events killing it.
