10 Things We Need To See Post-WWE Summerslam 2022

6. Legitimise Liv Morgan

Ludwig Kaiser Gunther Intercontinental Title
WWE

The good news for Liv Morgan: she retained her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam. The bad news: she did so in fluke fashion, and should in fact have lost, with Morgan clearly tapping to the armbar before the referee counted the three for her lucky pin.

It was one of the few missteps in an otherwise well booked show, and felt a downright strange decision. Having Morgan win through cunning, ala Bret Hart vs. Diesel, would have made sense, but to have her escape with her belt through bad officiating was damaging.

The fans want Morgan as the champion. She’s passionate, charismatic, a good (and consistently improving) worker. It’s an organic rise to the top, but it needs legitimising by WWE. That doesn’t mean she should suddenly be capable of battering Ronda Rousey, but to have the new babyface champ retain under such circumstances so as to further an angle is crazy.

Morgan needs wins - conclusive ones - in order to establish herself as the major talent she absolutely can be. You only need to look back a year at Nikki A.S.H to see how badly things can go wrong otherwise.
