5. Keep Promises
Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns have taken their sports entertainment war to its conclusion. Commentary described it as the defining rivalry of the past decade, and unfortunately that probably is true, but we’ve seen it for the final time, and that’s a promise WWE needs to keep.
Nevermind that their last man standing match was an absolute blast! Nevermind that Lesnar lifting the ring with a tractor was one of the funniest spots in recent memory, and the ending saw Reigns hit some great emotional beats, having finally vanquished his foe for good! We do not need to see this one again!
The larger point is not to rag on Reigns/Lesnar but to highlight the need for novelty at the top of WWE cards. This match has headlined three WrestleManias, two SummerSlams, and plenty more besides; even if all of those clashes had been good, that would be a problem.
“Build new stars” is easy and obvious advice to dispense towards a wrestling company, but now more than ever, it’s vital. Otherwise, when planning the WrestleMania 39 main event, the booking committee is bound to say “you know, we could always do…”
