10 Things We Need To See Post-WWE Summerslam 2022
3. Push Io Shirai
Nice and simple, this one. At long last, Io Shirai - or, if we absolutely must, IYO SKY - has made it to the main roster. Those who’ve seen her work on NXT or the Mae Young Classic will know that she’s an exceptional performer - and we’d quite like to see her treated as such, if that’s alright.
The introduction of Shirai has already been a little messy, with her Tron stating her old name but a clued up Cory Graves calling her Sky confusingly, but she can no doubt overcome this. While Bayley’s stable is a great jumping off point (with the returning star one of the company’s best talkers), it shouldn’t be too long before Shirai moves onward and upward.
The fresh matches on offer here are delicious: each of the Horsewomen, Rousey, Baszler, Naomi, renewed hostilities with Ripley. And then, most inviting of all, is the inevitable clash with Asuka, which could and should be a wild, hard hitting affair for the ages.
Whenever a star comes up from NXT, the temptation is always there to meddle, reshape, repackage. Io Shirai once put a bin on her head and jumped off a cage just for a laugh. Please leave her precisely as she is.
