10 Things WWE Actually Got Right In 2019
2. The Booking Of Survivor Series Weekend
An invasion angle, built across three weekly TV shows, plus a whole weekend of pay-per-view action? There were bound to be niggles, chief amongst them the otherwise well protected, massively over Walter eating the first pin of the men’s Survivor Series elimination bout.
That said, overall WWE more than delivered across Survivor Series weekend with two entertaining PPVs and the build was solid for the most part too. Some highlights include:
Kevin Owens turning up to an almighty pop as Tommaso Ciampa’s fourth man at War Games.
Adam Cole as November’s Iron Man performing out of his skin again and again. Cole/Bryan II can’t come soon enough.
Dakota Kai’s heel turn. In WWE we either get spoon fed heavily signposted story telling or else changes happen suddenly for no reason, leaving us unable to invest. Kai’s heel turn managed to actually wrong foot the audience without feeling unearned.
Rhea Ripley bouncing back from that awful “friends forever” promo to pin three of the company’s top stars in quick succession, announcing herself to main roster viewers as a dominant force and future champion.
Keith Lee transcending his place in the NXT pecking order and becoming an overnight star in front of a crowd agog at both his charisma and agility.
Why can’t every PPV be this good?
