10 Things WWE Actually Got Right This Week
8. Two Man Announce Team
Vic Joseph on Raw did his best last Monday but he was weighed down on one side by inexperience (Dio Madden) and on the other by yesterday’s man struggling to keep up (Jerry Lawler).
It was even more refreshing then, when SmackDown gave us something fans wanted almost as much as pyro. People who have been clamouring for a two man announce team will have felt vindicated by SmackDown on Friday.
With respect to Renee Young, she often felt like a spare part and will be better used on FS1. Meanwhile, freeing Corey Graves up from his own predilection for “banter” at Young’s expense let him focus on the job at hand.
Commentary felt less cluttered and messy, leaving more space for Daniel Bryan to sit in during Rowan and Reigns’ Lumberjack Match. Always an effective talker, the difference between his contributions and Dr. Britt Baker’s anodyne efforts on AEW Dynamite were stark by contrast. Lets hope that WWE resist the urge to meddle and stick with this stripped back booth going forward.
