10 Things That WWE (Almost) Always Messes Up

8. Humor

This is a big one. When was the last time the WWE actually came up with something legitimately funny? Granted, on one hand WWE is a PG company and they have to put in comedy that would fit within those parameters. However, PG wrestling can still be funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0r4bcMB3F4 Yet for some reason, WWE€™s attempts to be funny seem to fail on a regular basis. The aforementioned segment with El Torito and Hornswoggle as a Gator was just stupid, no one thought the Bunny character twerking is actually funny, and when Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb appeared on RAW, it was supposed to be a comedy segment, but failed hard. It seems that the only Superstar that can truly get the crowd to laugh is the Rock, and he only appears sporadically at this point. Sometimes Triple H would say something somewhat funny while poking fun at the Internet Wrestling Community, but that doesn€™t often illicit much of a response. Finally, John Cena is supposed to be a funny character at times, but his comedy skits are oftentimes so childish that even the younger audience might find it un-funny, especially his infamous €˜JBL is poopy€™ segment. The point here might simply be that Vince and the other scriptwriters might actually be totally disconnected from what the audience finds funny. Or, that they focus the comedy on one demographic, which alienates another. The point here is that the writers need to seriously reconsider what they think is comedy. It is possible to subtly include adult humor without being inappropriate for children and promos without cursing or direct adult themes can indeed work. It just requires better writing, and a better understanding of the target audience.
