10 Things WWE Are Getting Absolutely Right At The Moment
5. Randy and Riddle's Excellent Adventure
This really shouldn’t have worked, but it has.
Vince McMahon has a long documented history of simultaneously dismantling existing tag teams while sewing together odd couple tag teams that on paper have no tag team chemistry whatsoever. While it’s unfair that established tag teams like the Viking Raiders tend to fall by the wayside as a result of this practice, it can’t be denied that Vince has been incredibly fortunate in assembling these experimental tag teams over the years (perhaps a list for another day). The fever dream that is RK-Bro is unquestionably the most recent example.
As Monday Night RAW sputtered to the end of the ThunderDome era this past Spring and early Summer, the dynamic of the stoic, calculating Randy Orton desperately trying not to throttle loveable doofus Riddle at every turn was often the show’s only highlight. Though initially on the fence, like most fans, Orton eventually warmed up to the alliance. The result so far has been a wonderfully stupid six month run highlighted by incessant stream of consciousness ramblings, missing persons reports, matching scooters Orton never planned on riding, camel-mounted ring entrances and most crucially, the RAW Tag Team Championships.
The best part is that once the partnership inevitably dissolves, it still has the potential to be one of the best things going. Riddle flipping his internal switch from THC to UFC after being betrayed by Orton could very well be the match that steals the show at WrestleMania 38.
