10 Things WWE Are Getting Absolutely Right

2. John Cena's Character Direction

John Cena doesn't give a damn anymore.

After 18 years in the business and 16 World Title reigns, 'The Face Who Runs The Place' has nothing left to prove. He's a surefire Hall of Famer, his rank in wrestling history is secure, and aside from toppling Ric Flair championship record, he has no new ground to cover. He doesn't need to care about anything other than being himself anymore, so why should he bother?

This is Cena's character in 2017, and it's bloody brilliant.

WWE's franchise player has been on top form since returning in July. Not only did he give Shinsuke Nakamura his best main roster match prior to Battleground, but he bantered the hell out of Baron Corbin at SummerSlam, and eviscerated poor old Roman Reigns in a worked shoot promo on this week's Raw. It was scripted, but Cena's diatribe was absolutely savage, a far cry from his usual "never give up/overcome the odds" shtick, and one of his most memorable in a long time.

There's no telling how much longer Shooter Cena will last, but this is the most interesting John has been in years. Here's hoping it continues.
