10 Things WWE Did Wrong In 2014

3. Batista Winning The Royal Rumble

When people say the WWE management team is out of touch with the WWE Universe, there was no greater example than the 2014 Royal Rumble. Batista had returned after a four year absence, and it was a welcome return because he's a great talent. The problem was creative tried to bring him back as a face, a move that Batista himself didn't think was a good idea. He's much better in a heel role, something he was brilliant at four years ago before he left. When the #30 entrant was made known to be Rey Mysterio, the crowd came unhinged that it wasn't Daniel Bryan. Mysterio never was boo'd so heavily in his career than he was when he came out for the Rumble match. Then we got down to the final two competitors. It was Batista and Roman Reigns (who broke Kane's long standing record for eliminations in this year's Rumble). In the end, it was Batista that won to another HUGE chorus of boo's. You have to scratch your head at what creative was thinking with believing that Randy Orton vs. Batista was a main event that we all wanted to see. Eventually they got it right by adding Daniel Bryan into the match and giving us one great Wrestlemania moment, but it took the WWE Universe completely turning on Batista winning the Royal Rumble to get this change done, and it was one of the biggest things the WWE did wrong in 2014.
