10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Alundra Blayze

5. She Lost A Retirement Match in WCW

Retirements in wrestling are often treated as a big deal even though the reality is that they are a joke a lot of the time. While in WCW in 1996, she renewed her rivalry with Bull Nakano, which was smart booking on WCW's behalf. Their matches were awesome. What wasn't smart is that they had a WCW Women's Title and ended it in less of the year without Madusa winning it. She lost to Akira Hokuto it the finals of a tournament. The logical storyline would be for the babyface Madusa to come back after that tough loss and win the WCW Women's Title make the fans happy, but instead they went another direction. At the Great American Bash PPV in June 1997, Madusa lost a Career vs. Title match against Hokuto. She was only 33 years old, yet she was forced to retire. It was weird booking at the time. It's still weird today. Maybe dumb is the right word. Her retirement was basically the end of a serious women's division in WCW. Like most retirements in wrestling, she really wasn't done with wrestling.
