We've all got to start somewhere, and more often than not the most memorable beginnings are the shows and stories that stand the test of time.

Personally speaking, I'm pretty sure that the first professional wrestling match I saw had Dino Bravo in it, but do I remember it clearly? Nope, the first clear memory I have is Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth's tearful reunion at WrestleMania VII.

For Bobby Roode, the first WrestleMania stands as the first wrestling show he remembers seeing as a child. As far as earliest memories go, this is a pretty big one.

WWE (or WWF as it was then) was the only real promotion to make it up to Canada frequently, and Roode has told on a number of occasions of his memories of going to sparsely-rostered live events, possibly featuring journeyman Jim Powers in the main event.

In his appearance on Colt Cobana's 'Art of Wrestling' podcast, Roode also made a rather adorable mention of collecting wrestling action figures as a child, and actually got 18 of these one Christmas.

Included in those 18 was a 'Mean' Gene Okerlund figure, which I didn't even know existed. Can you even imagine getting a Tom Phillips figure today?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
