10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Brock Lesnar & John Cena's History
2. Lesnar Left WWE The Same Night That Cena Made His WrestleMania Debut
One door closes while another opens. That's what happened with these two. When Brock Lesnar left WWE in 2004 he did so as one of the top heels in the company. He dropped the WWE Title to Eddie Guerrero one month before his WrestleMania 20 match with Bill Goldberg. Prior to the match, he decided he wanted to pursue a career in the NFL and he ended up leaving WWE after losing to Goldberg. Fans booed him for leaving. He didn't seem to care. That show featured an opening match with Big Show defending the US Title against John Cena. At the time Cena had turned into one of the most popular babyfaces in WWE. He was loved by the fans because his edgy raps made him different from everybody else. Others were boring, but he was cool. Cena beat Big Show clean for the US Title. It was far from a great match although the crowd reaction was noticeable. It was at that moment when we could really see that Cena would be a huge star. Cena has been a major part of every WrestleMania since 2004 while Lesnar made his WrestleMania return in 2013 when he lost to Triple H. They probably won't face off at a WrestleMania although in the wrestling business we know that you can never really say never.
