10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Buddy Landel
10. He Helped Break A Record Set By Elvis
In July 1985, Buddy Landel helped break a record set by the King himself, Elvis Presley. To that point, the rock n' roll legend and Blue Suede Shoes singer had held the attendance record at Dorton Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. Then along came Buddy Landel, who had been wrestling with NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions, and Ric Flair. It would be the first of several encounters between the two, and it would smash the record set previously by the King. In an interview back in 1998 with TCW online, Landel pointed to that moment as a career highlight, stating;
Nobody can ever take away the fact that, you know, me and Flair both broke Elvis Presley's attendance record in Raleigh, North Carolina. I mean nobody can take away the things that I've done.
Landel, along with Shawn Michaels, also set an attendance record in Knoxville, TN.
