10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Jay White

2. Razor Sharp Strong Style Could Have Been A Thing

Most fans would agree that Jay White has been a star in waiting for a long time but there was still a degree of trepidation as the Kiwi continued doing his thing on excursion. Would he come back as a generic white meat babyface? Would he be saddled with some wacky gimmick? White wasn't doing much outside of the former in ROH, complete with white trunks and plucky losses against Punishment Martinez and Matt Taven

Then Switchblade was born, and everything was okay (initial teething problems notwithstanding).

As with most things in professional wrestling, it wasn't exactly that simple. Before the 'Switchblade' moniker was conjured up, White was offered a similar gimmick that was defined as 'Razor Sharp Strong Style', a loose idea that doesn't mean much outside of 'knives are cool' and 'something something Strong Style'.

New Japan liked the idea but Jay was less enthused, worried that the word 'Razor' would conjure up images of Razor Ramon and early '90s WWF. While the idea of White throwing toothpicks at opponents while a single curl makes its home on his forehead is an entertaining one, we can all agree that 'Switchblade' is a much better nickname.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
